Toners are used after cleansing to remove any remaining traces of dirt, oil, or makeup, balance the skin's pH levels, and prepare it for subsequent skincare steps. Toners come in various formulations; water-based, alcohol-free, and exfoliating types, catering to different skin types and concerns. 

Water-based toners typically contain hydrating ingredients like glycerin or hyaluronic acid to replenish moisture and soothe the skin. 

Alcohol-free toners are suitable for sensitive or dry skin types as they do not contain drying alcohols that can strip the skin of natural oils. 

Exfoliating toners, also known as acid toners, contain alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs) or beta hydroxy acids (BHAs) to gently exfoliate the skin, unclog pores, and promote cell turnover. They are beneficial for oily or acne-prone skin types as they help to prevent breakouts and refine the skin's texture.
